I only recently learned of Ken's passing. Although I hadn't seen Ken since the 1980s, he was -- and will always be -- an unforgettably good man who made everything more fun and everyone welcome to join in. Such a magic gift. May his memory be a blessing and may all who remember him be blessed.

First of all Ken was a great farther to he's children, Julia and Kate. They have grown up to be very special people! And last my sister Ellen, he was a wonderful husband to her and I know he will be deeply missed! Love to all my family!


To the Barcus Family:

My deepest condolences for your unspeakable loss.  Ken and I had grown up together as young journalists in D.C. and it's incomprehensible to think of him struck down so soon, on the cusp of a new chapter in life, one that promised to be relaxed and overflowing with fun.  That was Ken, the embodiment of good living.  And no one loved a good laugh more than he did, and his was contagious. Just hearing Ken laugh made you want to laugh, and he would have us in stitches. Ken  was a connoisseur of life, and enriched our lives.  Unfailingly fun-loving, intelligent, and with that twinkle in his eye that was oh so wise.    

Ken is an original.  And those of us who knew him ... mourn him.     

We are physically away, but emotionally we have always been with you. Mom and Dad, and now Ken are a part of that memory. Claver, Mom and Dad’s Apartment, Ken’s home, the Fall hike, egg toss, cider, fixing and just talking are always with us. We miss all of you, but all of you are with us.

  Dennis and I have many fun, zany and happy memories of Ken.  He and I attended Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill CA and then Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park CA.  He lived with us for awhile in Santa Rosa - many years ago.  Going to the flea market in Sebastopol, making great vegetarian dishes together, him helping me set up community fish tanks to name a few activities.  Our sons Brendan and Ben also have fond memories of further adventures, we all send our sympathy and love to his family.



Kayaking on the lake yesterday with Ken in my mind. 

My sincere sympathy on the untimely passing of a very special guy.  The entire Spevack/Chisling family sends their love,  Violet at 106 would be devastated to hear this news as our families have been close for so many years.  Violet was a childhood, lifelong best friend of Evel’s since they were in their teen at camp.  We were a part of the family and shared in the lives of Ken’s and his siblings.  Jane and I married at the same time.  Ken was the baby.  He came to visit Violet maybe a year or so ago with his aunt, Gert who was also a long time family friend.  
He was as they say a rough and tough guy. Perhaps, he got that from his father and also his love of gardening, but not like his father, he had a warm, caring side which was evident in how he cared for his mother in her final days and how proud he was of his family.
I am not able to attend the shiva but please know that we all are there in spirit.  Please stay in touch.

Kayaking yesterday with Ken in my heart. 

Ellen: so sorry for your loss. I hadn’t been in touch with Ken for awhile but I ran into Larry Checco recently and asked about him. Ken eas nothing if not unique, and Debra and I fondly remember New Years Eves together, many poker games, and almost catching fire in your attic :-). I’m not a praying man but you, Julia and Kate are in our thoughts.
