

Joan was born in Cleveland to Ruth and Edward Liebenthal on March 10, 1938. She was raised in Shaker Heights with her twin younger siblings David (Dee) Liebenthal and Diane Gluchow (deceased). Joan held a special place in her heart for her stepfather Marvin Schaeffer, one of the kindest people she ever met. Joan graduated from Shaker Heights High School and attended Springfield College.
Joan was teaching swimming at Red Wing Day Camp when she met her beloved husband Byron Krantz to whom she was married for over 60 years. She was an avid swimmer; swim teacher and health enthusiast throughout her life.
Traveling was one of Joan’s favorite things to do. Together, Joan and Byron visited over 75 countries, often bringing their grandchildren to share the world with them. Joan died in Brazil, just days after hiking up a South American mountain during a wonderful vacation.
Beloved wife of Byron Krantz (deceased); devoted mother of Brett and Marc (deceased) and beloved mother-in-law to Liz and Michele Krantz; loving grandmother of Matthew, Tyler, Danielle, Ellen, Tara and Ross Krantz; aunt to Cindy and Larry (Sandra) Gluchow.
Funeral services will be held at Berkowitz-Kumin-Bookatz Memorial Chapel, 1985 S Taylor Rd, Cleveland Heights, OH 44118 on Monday, April 14th at 10AM.

The family will receive friends at the residence of Brett and Liz Krantz, 29 Lyman Circle, Shaker Hts, OH 44122 Monday April 14, following a private family burial, from 2pm – 5pm and from 6:30pm -8:30pm.
Joan believed in tzedakah and in her unassuming quiet way gave charitably her whole life. Those who wish to honor her memory may make a donation to Planned Parenthood or to a charity of their choice or do a personal mitzvah for someone in need.
Please be advised that S. Taylor Road is closed going northbound from Cedar Road to Superior Avenue. Please use Washington Boulevard (from Cedar Road) and take that to Taylor Road. Make a right onto Taylor and the funeral home will be on your right.
