Helen was born in Lublin, Poland in 1930. At age 9, Helen endured and survived 6 years of nazi occupation. Helen and her mother were two of only a handful of the 40,000 Jews in Lublin who survived the Holocaust. She immigrated to Israel in 1952 and then to the United States in 1954 where she married Joseph Barrat in 1954. Helen was educated as a nurse.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Joseph Barrat. Helen was the loving mother of Renee (Larry) Gordon, Judith (Dr. Lawrence) Wolkoff and Elliot S. (Dr. Robin) Barrat, Esq. Helen loved, admired and was devoted to her nine grandchildren: Dr. Aaron Wolkoff, Jason Barrat, Esq, Seth Wolkoff, Monique Gross, Dr. Cory Barrat, Gregory Wolkoff, Halle Levi, Jenna, Gordon Jillian Weiss. Helen is also survived by 17 great-grandchildren who all brought a smile and laughter to her when they called or visited.
Private graveside services will be held for family only on Sunday, April 14, 2024.
The family will receive friends Sunday only, from 3 to 5 pm at 2155 Halcyon Rd, Beachwood, OH 44122.
