Evelyn Shirley Nameroff (nee Singer), beloved wife of Judge Larry Nameroff. Loved mother of Natalie Bauman, Beth Schimelman (Dan), and stepmother of David Nameroff (Pam) and Steven Nameroff (Michael Ann). Cherished grandmother of Jacob, Tara and Ethan Schimelman, Melina Bauman, Micah (Brandon) Hayden, and Devin (Michelle), Riane and Griffin Nameroff, great-grandmother to Zeke and Nora. Dear sister of the late Toby Mezi and Annette Brown, and best aunt and great-aunt to many more.
Evelyn was the youngest daughter of Benjamin and Bertha (Landau) Singer, born in 1928. She adored her sisters Toby and Annette, and the three lived close to each other in Cleveland, often down the street for much of their adult lives and raised their families tightly together. Evelyn had a strong work ethic, often working multiple jobs as a young woman. She rose to a highly respected role as the corporate secretary of Horizons Industries and took great pride in her contributions there. She married in the late 50s, and was thrilled to finally have kids of her own with the arrival of her daughters Natalie and Beth. She is remembered as a Brownie leader, a kitchen table kibitzer with her sisters and lifelong friends, a volunteer in the Jewish community, a lifelong Hadassah member and someone who always showed up when she was needed. She was a highly successful wedding planner in Cleveland, and also quite a talented artist.
She became a theatre mom (and later theatre wife) skilled with costumes, programs and everything else that needed tending. Her intelligence was revealed at the bridge table, where she met her second husband Larry Nameroff. Their love match (and bridge obsession) lasted over fifty years, taking them all over the world on adventures, living in Cincinnati, then Los Angeles for many years before retiring to South Carolina. Larry and Evelyn created a Brady Bunch-style blended family, always showering their kids and then grandkids with love. Evelyn never expected to be around for 95 years, but her strength, sheer willpower and tenacity brought her through numerous obstacles always with a smile on her face and a belief that she could make things work out. She died on Tuesday, April 9th at the age of 95, surrounded by family.
Graveside services will be held Sunday, April 14th at 11:00 a.m. at the Bet Olam Cemetery, 25796 Chagrin Blvd. Beachwood, Ohio. Family and friends are welcome for shiva on Sunday and Monday from 2-5 p.m. at the home of Natalie Bauman, 876 Trebisky Road in South Euclid.
In lieu of flowers, friends may donate in her memory to Hadassah, of which Evelyn was a lifelong supporter.
