Mr. Nelson was a resident of Salemtowne for 11 years and regularly attended church services every Sunday.
Mr. Nelson answered his country’s call and served in the Navy. He served during WWII and was stationed at Pearl Harbor.
He was an electrical engineer, retired from Scientific Devices, Orlando, FL.
He enjoyed football and was an avid Washington Redskins fan; and a people person who loved to tell jokes and make people laugh.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and son, William Holmes Nelson, Jr.
Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife, Hilda Nelson; daughters, Marion Houck and husband Harold, Phyllis Nelson, and Cindy Keels and husband Steven; grandchildren, Terri Robinson and husband Kenny, Sarah Ogburn, Beth Sell and husband Josh, and Marci Robbins and husband Jim; great grandchildren, Christie, Ashley, Luke, Sierra, Caleb, Lily, and Lauryn; and special friends and relatives, Roger and Estalee Dondelinger, Marty Penland, Louise and Raymond Fix, Jo Ann Lamb, Mary Parrish, Gayle Thompson, Phyllis Miller, Betty Boeshe, and Deloras Wickless.
The family would like to thank Salemtowne and Hospice of WS for their care and kindness shown to Bill.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 20, 2011, 2:00 PM, at Vogler and Sons Reynolda Chapel. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 PM prior to the service.
Interment will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of WS, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
