Walter Lee Stone

Walter “Stoney” Lee Stone, 82, passed away on September 12, 2018, at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. He was born on January 23, 1936, in Halifax County to the late Ernest and Lucille Blanton Stone. He was reared in Wilmington, NC. Stoney proudly served his country in the US Navy for over 21 years. He retired from the Navy after serving on submarines throughout his career. After his time serving our county, Stoney went on to work and then retire from K&W Cafeteria as Manager over several locations for over 20 years. Stoney was a member of the Clemmons United Methodist Church, where he was an active member of the Methodist Men.

Stoney is preceded in death by his first wife, Jodie Stone; second wife, Mary Stone; and stepdaughters, Donna Lockemy and Robin Jones. He leaves behind his sister, Ann Williams; niece, Angel Croft (Jeremy); and nephew, Timothy Williams (Melanie); and his stepson, Don Lockemy, Jr. Walter also had 5 grandsons, 11 great-grandsons and great-granddaughters, along with one great-niece and one great-nephew.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 23, at 2:00 in the sanctuary at Clemmons United Methodist Church, 3700 Clemmons Roads, Clemmons, NC. After the service, Walter will be laid to rest in the CUMC Columbarium alongside his wife, Mary Stone.
