Verna "Peggy" Sue Matthews

Peggy was born on March 22, 1938, in Wilkes County, NC, to the late Aurther and Mrytie Bryd Johnson. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Lee Matthews, one brother, and one sister.

She was of the Baptist faith. Peggy was a very proud and dedicated homemaker in raising her children. Mrs. Matthews was a very giving, caring, and loving person, helping anyone she could along the way. Peggy overcame a lot of life’s adversity to make sure and provide for her family at all times.

She is survived by three children, James Call and wife, Robin of Wilkes County, NC, Joanne Epperson and husband, Curtis of Pfafftown, and Henry Matthews of Pfafftown; one sister, Barbara Jean Pennel and husband, Chic of Lenoir; two brothers, Percy Johnson and wife, Doris of Wilkes County, and Gary Johnson and wife, Crystal of Wilkes County; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held 2 PM, Saturday, October 4th with Pastor Gene Woolard officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM, Friday, October 3rd at Frank Vogler and Sons Funeral Home, Reynolda Chapel.
