Tom was born in Charlotte to the late Thomas Henry Weir, Sr. and Irene Randall Weir and is also preceded in death by his brother, Carlton Weir. Tom is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 50 years, Elizabeth Moore Weir, and by their children; Thomas (Sheryl) Weir III, Debra (Mike) Martin, and Scott (Amy) Weir, and by his seven grandchildren; Betsy and Sarah Weir, Jacob, Joshua, and Jackson Martin, and Ashley and Cooper Weir. Tom graduated from East (Mecklenburg) High School in 1952 and received his degree from North Carolina State University in 1956. He subsequently served in the United States Army until 1963. Tom worked in furniture manufacturing for American of Martinsville in Martinsville, VA; Empire Furniture in Johnson City, TN; and with Unique Furniture Makers in Winston-Salem, NC. He subsequently traveled internationally consulting with furniture manufacturers around the globe and also served as a Vice President of the American Furniture Manufacturers Association. Tom was a past member of the Johnson City Jaycee’s and was an active member of the Winston-Salem Golden K Kiwanis Club, having served as a past member of the Board of Directors. He was an active member and past deacon of Parkway Presbyterian Church. After retirement, Tom stayed active traveling to his grandchildren’s baseball, soccer, and basketball games. He remained an avid golfer and stayed active in community service. Papa Tom was happiest when spending time with his children and grandchildren, and was a strong, kind and generous man to all.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 5 at 10:00 a.m. at Parkway Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dan Wilkers, officiating.
