WINSTON-SALEM - Steven Carroll "Steve" Henderson, 54, of Winston-Salem, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at his residence. Born in Winston-Salem, he lived all his life in this area. Steve attended local schools and graduated from North High School and Gardner-Webb University with a degree in Business Management. He worked with Duke Power and Flow Motors and retired in 2004. Mr. Henderson was a member of Mineral Springs Baptist Church and more recently the Knollwood Baptist Church. He was an environmentalist and enjoyed the outdoors including canoeing, kayaking, hiking, bicycling, and camping. In addition Steve loved his three cats, restoring and repairing automobiles, and cooking, especially his chili, that was recognized as the very best. Steve taught children in Sunday School and operated the church audio and video equipment.
Surviving family includes his parents Bill and Earline (Teague) Henderson; loving sister Deborah Lynn Henderson; and special aunts Vetral Owens, Ilene Teddycord, Margie Freeman (Leonard), Elva Miller (Jimmy), and Martha Ridings as well as numerous cousins. He was predeceased by his grandparents L.P. and Mittie Henderson, Hobart and Bessie Teague.
A Funeral Service, celebrating his life, will be conducted on Monday (3/1/2010), 2:00 p.m. at the Mineral Springs Baptist Church, with Dr. Gus Thomas and Dr. Cecil Cave officiating. Interment will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will visit with their friends on Monday from 1:00 p.m. until service time, at the church. Funeral arrangements are under the care of the Vogler Funeral Home, Reynolda Chapel, a Dignity Memorial provider.
