Ruby was born June 6, 1929, in Polkville, NC a daughter of the late Horace Guy and Vangie Canipe Peeler. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the love of her life, Elbert Robey on Nov. 23, 1996. She attended Appalachian State and became a teacher, first teaching nursing students at the North Carolina Baptist School of Nursing and then as a teacher in the Winston-Salem Forsyth County School System for 13 years before retiring. She was a member of Christ Community Church in Pfafftown, NC. Ruby was a loving and dedicated mother, sister, and grandmother. She enjoyed sewing, genealogy, and spending time with her family. One of her greatest joys was working on and spending time at the house in southwestern VA that she and her husband, Elbert, built.
She is survived by two sisters, Marilyn Poston of Simpsonville, SC and Janice Poteet of Greenville, SC; three sons, Dr. Edwin Robey and wife, Shaunna, of Virginia Beach, VA, Michael Robey and wife, Susan, of Galax, VA, and Dr. Steven Robey and wife, Dr. Janice Reutt-Robey, of Silver Spring MD; and ten grandchildren, Renee Carlson, Elisabeth, Catherine and Andrea Robey, Christopher Robey, Stefan and Sean Bundy, Stefanie, and Rachel Robey; and two brothers-in-law, Troy Robey and wife, Ada Mae of Wales and John Robey and wife, Donese of Cedar Point NC. The family would like to thank Larry and Diane Varner, Jerry Welch and Vera Olds for being so caring to Ruby.
