Mrs. Ruby Collins Bailey, 96, of Brooksdale Senior Living, peacefully departed this earthly home for her eternal home on January 25, 2017 after an extended illness with Alzheimer’s Disease. Born in Forsyth County on November 23, 1920, Ruby was the eldest daughter of Sandy Lee Collins, Sr. and Flora Daub Collins. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, John S. (Johnny) Bailey, her parents, a daughter, Sandra B. Watson, 3 brothers and 4 sisters. Mrs. Bailey is survived by two daughters, Beverly K. Walter and Flora Eileen Bailey, both of Phoenix, Arizona; two sisters, Faye Collins and Phyllis C. Williams (Bob), both of Walkertown; a son-in-law, Bill Watson, of Bermuda Run; 4 grandchildren, Angela Carter (B.A.) of Bermuda Run, Michelle Christie (Benny) of Winston Salem, Jeff Brewer and Jonathan Brewer, both of Phoenix, AZ; six great-grandchildren, Dakota Hutchins, Madalyn Christie, Savannah, Paris, and Gavin Brewer, and Kadynce Brewer.
Ruby was a devoted and active member of Parkway Presbyterian Church where she participated in the choir, Communion and Worship Committees, organized the music library, served as an Elder, and assisted in the seasonal decorating of the sanctuary.
Ruby was a faithful member of the Winston Salem Symphony Chorale for more than 40 years, during which time she mastered singing in 5 languages.
An avid gardener, she was always willing to share her knowledge of plants as well as giving plants to friends and family. Her historic persimmon tree was a joy she shared with many.
A visitation will be held at Frank Vogler & Sons Funeral Home, 2951 Reynolda Rd, on Wednesday, Feb 1st from 6-9pm. Following a private graveside service for the family at Forsyth Memorial Park, the celebration of life service will be held at Parkway Presbyterian Church on Thursday, February 2nd at 2pm followed by a reception in the Narthex.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Organ Fund at Parkway Presbyterian Church, 1000 Yorkshire Rd, Winston Salem, NC 27106.
