Always ready with a quick joke and willing to make every stranger a friend, Robert was a source of joy and comfort for all who knew him. His presence will be missed.
Robert was born on Saint David’s Day, March 1, 1945 in East Lansing, Michigan to the late Clifford and Jean Selby. He attended the University of Toledo where he earned his bachelor’s degree in education and later attended Colgate Rochester Bexley Hall Crozer Divinity School and earned his Masters of Divinity. Robert was an ordained priest with the Episcopal Church for over 20 years. After his career in ministry, he spent time as a high school math and special education teacher.
Robert had a great love for baseball and his favorite song was “Take Me Out to the Ballgame.” He would never pass up some fresh popcorn and a stadium hotdog. Robert also looked forward to spending summers at the cottage in Canada. But most of all he loved his family dearly. He was a patient husband, loving father, and doting grandfather.
Robert leaves behind his wife, Amy Jo Selby; children, Robin (William) Munster, Matthew (Nicole) Selby, Sarah Selby, and Anne (Nathan) Tyree; grandchildren, Andrew Munster, Alexander Munster (Lauren), Aaron Munster, Abigail Munster, Aiden Munster, Claire Selby, Tyler Selby, Grant Selby, Jack Selby, Madelyn Selby, Ava Tyree, Emma Tyree; honorary grandson, Caleb Zimmerman; sister, Jane Sielken; as well as many other loved ones and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 15th at 1 pm at St. Clement’s Episcopal Church. The family will receive friends following the memorial service and committal for a reception to celebrate Robert’s life.
Memorial contributions can be made in Robert’s honor to St. Clement’s Episcopal Church and Trellis Supportive Care.
