Mr. Robert Ross Knapp

Robert R. Knapp went to his Lord on November 9, 2011, He was born December 13,1939 in Kane, PA to Robert H. and Violet (Roberts) Knapp. He was married August 18,1968 to Helga Gottel Knapp who preceded him in death. He graduated from Wellsville High School in 1957. Following graduation, he joined the army and retired with 20 years of service, including two terms in Vietnam. He retired as a Master Sergeant and was awarded the Bronze Star medal, 2 Meritorious Service medals, 2 Army Commendation medals. Following his army career, he earned his Associate Degree in Business Management. Robert was a great family man. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister Jacqueline Denhoff, and brother-in-law Mike O'Connor. He was the proud father of five children: Jacqueline (Steve) Williams of Raleigh, NC, Robin Knapp of Fayetteville, NC, David Knapp of Richmond, VA, Sandra (Chris) Hall of Arvada CO, Martina (Hayes) Smith of Winston-Salem, NC; and 11 grandchildren. He also leaves siblings, Rita O'Connor of Wellsville, NY, Betty (Dan) Pickett of Buffalo, NY, Richard (Lani) Knapp of Wellsville, NY and many nephews and nieces. Friends may visit on Sunday, November 13, 2011 from 4 - 6 p.m. at Frank Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel. A Funeral Service will take place on Monday, November 14, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with a military graveside service to follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family would like to thank all the staff in neuro ICCU at Forsyth Medical Center for the wonderful care he received while he was there, and to the palliative care nurses who made us a part of their family.
