Robert was born in Stark County, Ohio on December 8, 1942 to the late Robert Gale Hafer and Elizabeth Puncheon Hafer. After high school, Robert joined the Air Force. It was during this time that he met his wife, Barbara Lee Haake. Robert worked as a manager in aviation fuel support for over 27 years with Lockheed in Chicago and Piedmont Airlines in Winston Salem. Previously, he served as a volunteer firefighter and an E.M.T. in La Grange,Pk Illinois. That work was perfect for Robert as he was quick to help anyone in need. He could fix almost anything and was great with mechanics and puzzles.
Robert was a devoted family man. He had a good sense of humor and was extremely thoughtful. Robert spent all the time he could with his children and grandchildren. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Barbara Haake Hafer; daughters, Heather (William) Rivers and Kimberly Hafer (Darrell Wood); son-in-law, Dale Crouse; grandchildren, Christopher Wood, Hannah Rivers, Emily (Joshua) Miles, Robert (Michaella) Crouse, Sarah Rivers, Sam Crouse, Zach (Kaitlyn) Wood, and Molly Rivers; great grandchildren, Dominic, Oliver, Hallie, Maverick, Levi, and Daisy; siblings, Tom (Paula) Hafer, Cindy (Jim) Swanner, Barb Strauch, Jeff (Marilyn) Hafer, and Greg (Deb) Hafer; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other loved ones. In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his daughter, Nicole Crouse, and sister Judith Hafer.
The family will have a private service to celebrate Robert’s life.
