loved with every ounce of her being. Previously a resident of Raleigh, NC, she has been a
resident of Clemmons since 2000, a few years following the death of her husband, Ben Davis
Harrington, Jr. in December 1997.
Mable was born in Harnett County to Earl and Blonza Ballard. She spent her formative years in
the rural community of Kipling, where she and Ben became high school sweethearts. Mable was
a 1953 graduate of Greensboro College, where she served as president of the Athletic Club;
was voted Miss Greensboro College; and served on the Student Council. She was also active
with the Interfraternity Council at NCSU, where Ben was a student. Following completion of their
college educations, they were married on June 6, 1953. They moved to Athens, Georgia where
Ben attended Veterinary School at University of Georgia. Mable started teaching that fall in
Jefferson, Georgia. Following Ben’s graduation from UGA, they moved to Raleigh, where they
raised a family and lived until her move to Clemmons in 2000.
Hers was a life well lived. Always both the student and teacher. Always concerned for the
well-being of others, especially her family and friends. Always serving in many ways at each
church she attended and within the community she lived. An avid gardener and bird lover.

Cooper. And always stayed connected to others through text, phone calls and mail.

Harrington(Casey Fitzgivens) of Atlanta, grandsons Patrick Giff(Grace Martin) of Fairfax,
