Howard William Moffatt of 2385 Loeschs LN, Winston-Salem, NC, passed away Friday August 14, 2015. Howie, as he was known, was born in Holyoke, MA and attended H.B. Lawrence School and Holyoke High School, both in Holyoke, and graduated from South Hadley High School in South Hadley Falls, MA. Howie was retired from the U.S. Air Force, where he had first served as an Electrician, then as an Electronics Instructor for Electronic Ground Countermeasures, and then as an Electronics Technician for Airborne Electronic Warfare Systems. Howie worked on both B66 and B52 type aircraft while in the Air Force.
In 1954 Howie married his high school sweetheart, Jacqueline Kaminski, also of Holyoke, MA, and the both of them lived in Virginia, New Jersey, Connecticut, New York, Mississippi, Georgia, and Maine. They also spent several years abroad in England and France during Howie’s tours of duty with the Air Force. After retiring from the Air Force, Howie was employed by General Instrument Corp., first in Chicopee, MA, then in El Paso, TX, where he worked in Juarez, Mexico, and then was transferred by General Instrument to Brownsville, TX, where he worked in Matamoras, Mexico, and retired from there in 1997 where he was serving as Director of Operations for a General Instrument electronic manufacturing and repair facility. In June, 1998, Howie and his wife, Jackie, relocated to Winston-Salem, NC. Howie was preceded in death by his wife, Jacqueline, who passed away on September 28, 2013. That day was the saddest day in Howie’s life. He loved Jackie so much! Howie is survived by three sons, Howard Cassidy-Moffatt of Topeka KS, and Gregory and David Moffatt, both of Winston-Salem. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Jessica Cummins of Goltry, OK, Paul Moffatt of Greely, CO, and Nathaniel, Caitlin, Tyanna, and Ruth Moffatt, all in the Winston-Salem area. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren, Shelby, Seth, Sophie, and Staysha Cummins, of Goltry, OK, and Cooper and Harper Moffatt, of Greely, CO. While living in El Paso, TX, Howie was a charter member and Elder of the Pebble Hills Presbyterian Church, and was also a past member of the Parkway Presbyterian Church here in Winston-Salem. Howard was a member of the National Association of Uniformed Services, the Air Force Sergeants Association, and a National Member of the American Legion. He was also a long time supporter of the VFW and the USO. Howie’s cremains, along with those of his wife, Jackie, will be moved to the Mass. Veterans’ Cemetery in Agawam, MA at a date convenient to the family. Anyone desiring to donate a gift in Howard’s memory are requested to please donate either to the Forsyth County Humane Society or to the USO.
