Harvey R. Reece was gently called home by his Heavenly Father on Saturday, July 21, 2012. He was born in Yadkin County on October 17, 1927 to the late Zettie (Prim) and Weldon F. Reece of Boonville, NC.
He spent his childhood and young adult years in Boonville, NC. In 1957, he moved with his wife and twin daughters to the Old Town community. He currently resided at Vienna Village in Pfafftown, NC.
Mr. Reece was a true entrepreneur at heart. His father gave him his first tobacco plot at an early age and he saved to purchase his first car, a 1927 Model A. He worked for Woodrow and Reece Hardware and loved selling pocket knives. Mr. Reece also worked for Western Electric in the Tool and Dye Shop as an inspector. In 1957, he and his wife started Old Town Fabric Center which they owned for 20 years. Several years later he started Old Town Drapery Shop and owned it for over 35 years. Mr. Reece loved meeting new people and being able to help find that perfect window treatment.
Mr. Reece was a member of Becks Baptist Church for 56 years. He assisted with second grade Sunday school classes there for many, many years. He served as a Deacon, Chairman of the Deacons and on various committees over the years. In his younger years, he loved to play outfield on the church softball team.
He was presided in death by his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 65 years and 10 months, Ruth (Hudler). Survived by his daughters, Brenda Kiser-Hansen (David), Linda R. Tuttle (Mike), and Joan R. Reese (Cleve); his grand children Spencer C. Kiser (Joann), David M. Tuttle (Megan), Amanda B. Kiser (Chris) and Douglas H. Tuttle (Laurie); his great-grand children, Beckett C. Tuttle, Reece D. Tuttle, Ella I. Kiser and Aaron F. Tuttle; his sister, Ruby (Reece) Caudle; his brother Kenneth F. Reece (Opal); brother-in-law, Robert H. Hudler (Margie) and several other family members, nieces and nephews.
A special thanks to James L. Brooks, co-worker and family member for his years of friendship and dedication.
The family also thanks those at Vienna Village who watched over and cared for him.
A funeral service will be Tuesday, July 24, 11:00 am, at Becks Baptist Church with Dr. Karl Minor officiating. The family will receive friends Monday, July 23, 6:00-8:00 pm, at Vogler and Sons Reynolda Chapel.
Interment will follow service in the church cemetery.
