Ted was born in the District of Columbia on January 4, 1948 to the late Francis Elliot Jr. and Edith Hague Elliot. He was intelligent, compassionate, and always eager to share his knowledge. Francis wanted to help others. This calling led him to study law. Ted earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Maryland at College Park in 1969 and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 1976, graduating magna cum laude. Ted was also a member of the Heuisler Honor Society, an award reserved for the top ten percent of each graduating class. Ted practiced as an associate attorney with Zimmerman, Aldridge & Dwyer in Frederick from December 1976 to July 1978 in the general practice of law. He practiced law in partnership with others or alone from July 1978, to present, specializing in real estate law. Ted had been President and owner of Blue Ridge Title Company since 1993. He continued to practice law until his death. His generosity and seniority in his field gave him the opportunity to reach his philanthropic goals of representing many pro bono cases throughout his years for clients and charitable causes.
Ted was larger than life. His friends and family will remember him for not only his generous heart, but also his great sense of humor and ability to make anyone laugh. All that knew him were truly blessed.
He leaves behind his wife of 17 years, Penny Elliot; children, Day (Jeff) Barth, Amanda (Troy) McWhirter, and Thomas Elliot; stepchildren, Stephen (Carolyn) Gray, Kristen (Christopher) Woodward, Patrick (Gretchen) Gray, and Lauren Gastley; grandchildren, Elaine Little, Grace Little, Samuel Little, Naomi Boissy, Timothy Gray, Scott Gray, Stephanie Gray, Alan Gray, Sarah Gray, Taylor Woodward, Blake Woodward, Connor Woodward, Samantha Woodward, Madison Woodward, Andrew Gastley, Caitlin Gastley, and Emily Gastley; sister Ann (Daniel) Elliott; nieces, Christina and Cynthia; and nephews, Brian and Kevin. He had a very special place in his heart and home for grandchildren Allison Gray and Paige Gray, whom he helped his wife raise for the last five years.
There will be a Celebration of Life announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers and because of Ted’s love for animals of all kinds, please make a donation in his name to your local animal shelter.
