Mrs. Emma Jean Carter, 93, of Advance, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2014 at Kate B. Reynolds with her family by her side.
Emma was born in Mount Lookout, WV, a daughter to the late Walter Legg and Hansey McClung Legg. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, William Ross Carter; eleven siblings, William Clarence Legg, Walter Marshal Legg, Charles Leslie Legg, Lovie Gladus Legg, Lola Virginia Greaser, Woodrow “Bud” Legg, Otis “Sodie” Legg, Thelma Louise Legg, Theodore Newman, Eva Gray, and Luella “Pike” Legg. Emma retired from Hanes Hosiery after 25 plus years of service. She enjoyed antiques, was very active, crocheting, flowers, and basket making. She was an outgoing person who loved her family and friends.
She is survived by her son, Charles, “Pedie” Carter and wife, Pat of Advance; grandchildren, Tammy Seats and husband, Donnie of Mocksville, and Brian Carter of Advance; one great granddaughter, Kristen Seats of Mocksville, special friends, Flora Mae and Thurman Hockaday of Advance; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 1:00 PM, Wednesday, April 2nd at Mocks United Methodist Church with Rev. Bill Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, from 6 until 8 PM at Frank Vogler and Sons Funeral Home, Clemmons Chapel.
