Winston-Salem
Mrs. Marie Van Hoy Bellin, 91, of Winston-Salem passed away, Thursday, November 28, 2013, at her home.
Marie was born July 12, 1922, to the late Trula Snyder and Nat Wilson Van Hoy in Winston-Salem, NC. She attended Winston-Salem Public Schools and graduated from Salem College in 1942. She was employed briefly by Forsyth County and Salem College. She studied voice at Salem College and participated in many local musical activities. She was a member of the Choir at Fairview Moravian Church. In 1946 she moved to Raleigh NC and while there participated in the Raleigh Little Theatre and the Grass Roots Opera company which toured the state producing Mozart and Bizet operas. She also participated in choral parts of other operas. In 1951 she moved to New York City. While there, she was employed by NBC Television, Bristol Meyers Company (Legal Department), Columbia University and Lexington School for the Deaf. She sang in church choirs and was a member of the Robert Shaw Collegiate Chorale. She studied voice and ballet in New York. In 1962 she returned to Winston-Salem, where she met and married Dr. Stuart A. Bellin on December 21, 1962. She took part in Little Theatre activities and sang in the choir at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. She taught ballet briefly. Her lifelong desire to study music at Salem College came to fruition in 1967. She continued her musical studies at Salem off and on until 1996. She studied harpsichord with Dr. John Mueller and organ with both Dr. and Mrs. Mueller, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church where she was a member. She was active in the order of St. Luke as well as a member of the choir. For a brief time she was a member of the Library Guild and assisted with the ministry of older adults.
She is survived by two nephews, Samuel Styer and wife, Sara of Wilmington, NC and Joseph Styer and wife, Ruth of Thomasville, NC; a niece, Ellen Jo Staley and husband, Bruce of Ashville; several great nieces and nephews; Marie will be greatly missed by her best friend and care giver, Francis Gilbert of Walkertown, whom was with Marie for seventeen years.

Raymer, Eugene Gilbert, Chris Hembree, Toni and Marshall Gilbert, Keith Clayton and Maria Clayton, Connie and Tom Arnold, Alton Sprinkle, Marjorie Northup, and Ann Rhan of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
A funeral service will be held 2PM, Monday, December 2nd, in the Chapel of Frank Vogler and Sons Funeral Home, Reynolda Road, with Father Stuart Hoke officiating. Burial will follow at Salem Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday, one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
