Clemmons-Mr. Eldridge Grant Jordan, 95, passed away September 13, 2012 at the VA Hospice in Salisbury, NC. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 18 at Frank Vogler & Sons Clemmons Chapel at 3 PM with Chaplain Reuben K. Washington officiating. Interment will be at Westlawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 2-3 PM prior to the service.
Mr. Jordan was born in Charlotte County, VA to the late Ira Franklin and Elsie May Sublett Jordan. He served his country in the US Navy from 1939-1945 in the South Pacific. In 1945 he married Loraine Mae White Jordan and spent 35 wonderful years together until her death in 1980. In 1981 he married Louise Brandon Jordan who preceded him in death in 1994.
Mr. Jordan was a member of First Baptist Church in Clemmons since 1964. His community associations included Oasis Shriners, Clemmons Masonic Lodge and Clemmons Eastern Star all of which he was an active member. He loved his garden and enjoyed sharing the bounty with family and friends. Mr. Jordan was a self-taught, strong willed man with a tremendous work ethic. He found special joy in the time he was able to spend with his family after his retirement. He was employed with Greyhound Bus Lines for over 30 years as a diesel engineman and AC specialist.
He is survived by his four children, Gloria McGuire of Winston-Salem, Dennis (Judy) Jordan of Rock Hill, SC, Robert (Mary Kathryn) Jordan of Lexington, and Janet Mason of Clemmons; grandchildren, Jason McGuire and his daughter, Morgan, Melissa (Troy) Trinkle and their sons, Peyton and Garrett, Phillip (Lisa) Jordan, Jeffrey (Meredith) Jordan and their sons Nicholas, Samuel and Wesley, Steven (Heidi) Jordan and their son Jacob, Richard Jordan, Mia Jordan, Lana Jordan, Pamela Mason, Valerie (Justin )Bogard and their daughters, Jala and Kadence, Kyle (Hollie) Mason, and Kane Mason. He is also survived by his brother Billy Jordan, sister, Ruby Kelly and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his wives, he is preceded in death by five brothers and sisters.
The family asks in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, Alzheimer’s Associaton or the W.G. Hefner VA Medical Center, Liberty Hospice Unit, 1601 Brenner Ave., Salisbury, NC 28144.
