Winston-Salem- Mr. Earl Wiley Severt, 83, died May 29, 2011 at Wake Forest Baptist Health. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 2, 2011 at 11:00AM at Frank Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel and at 3:00 PM at Obid’s Baptist Church West Jefferson, NC. Interment will take place in the church cemetery.
Mr. Severt was born in Ashe County to the late Callie Grant and Ada Burgess Severt. He served in the US Army from 1946 to 1949. Mr. Severt worked as a computer operator specialist in the data processing department for the city of Winston-Salem from 1955-1988. In 1982 he was awarded employee of the year and most cooperative to administrative staff. He has been a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church for more than 20 years and has lived a full Christian life that reflected his deep faith. Mr. Severt loved his family and spent many happy years creating wonderful memories in their mountain home in West Jefferson. He enjoyed woodworking crafts and carpentry, was an accomplished guitarist and enjoyed playing blue grass and gospel music. After retiring, his passion became tracing his family history.
He is survived by his wife of twenty three years, Midge Gacesa Severt of the home; his children and their spouses, Dennis G. (Camille) Severt of Lexington, Steve W. (Pat) Severt of Pilot Mountain, Lois S. Church of Lexington, Gerald K. (Vickie) Severt of Lexington, and Pam S. (Ron) Mickey of Lexington; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; aunt Evazella Parsons; and numerous cousins. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Inez Parsons Severt in 1987 and his son David E. Severt in 2006.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at Frank Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Obid’s Cemetery Fund, c/o Raymond Bare, 1325 Old Obid’s Baptist Road, W. Jefferson, NC 28694
