RURAL HALL - Mr. Charles E. Morrison, Jr. departed this life August 31, 2010, at Forsyth Medical Center after a brief illness. He was the first born of Charles and Doris Morrison of Winston-Salem, NC, on March 13, 1954. Charles was affectionately known as “Bubba” all his life because his baby sister, Mary, couldn’t say “brother” when she was little. Charles was a graduate of Bishop McGuiness High School and attended WSSU for three years.
Charles was preceded in death by his brother, Tony Sherard Morrison. He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Sylvia Spillman Morrison of Rural Hall; two sons, Rommel (Leigh) Morrison of Greensboro and Marlon Morrison of Winston-Salem; a daughter, Lakisha M. (Kevin) Sturgues of Thomasville; five grandchildren, Alexandra Morrison of Thomasville, Danielle Kimbrough of Winston-Salem, Jayna and Elijah Morrison of Greensboro and Charles William Sturgues of Thomasville; and two step-grandchildren, Dequon and Kaylen Sturgues of Thomasville.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his parents; two sisters, Mary M. (Kevin) Bethea of Rural Hall and Irma M. Taylor of Winston-Salem; a brother-in-law, Kenneth Spillman; three sisters-in-law, Robin Brooks, Sandra (John) Williams and Deborah Gore, all of Winston-Salem; three aunts, Moniece Van Diver of Roselle, NJ, Nancy Grace of Winston-Salem and Roselle (Theodore) Mebane of Winston-Salem; nephews and nieces, Dexter (Jacqueline) Lowe, Loretta Gaines, Tiffany Spillman, Brandon Spillman, Andre Gore and William Gore, Erica T. (Chris) Cousin of Kernersville, Jason Taylor of East Bend, Jabari Taylor-Reid, Latoya Spillman, Stephanie Spillman, Tasha Brooks, all of Winston-Salem; and a host of cousins, extended relatives and friends.
The Funeral Service will be held at Voglers Reynolda Road Chapel at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 4, with Pastor Antonio Spillman officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the chapel on the same day. Burial will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens.
