Cathy Levora Johnson Carter

Cathy was born in Forsyth County on July 5, 1952 to the late Otis Johnson, Jr. and Edna Hill Johnson. She graduated from Parkland High School in 1970. Cathy then went to study nursing at North Carolina Baptist Hospital School of Nursing, known today as Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist. Cathy worked as a certified pediatric registered nurse for 40 years.

Cathy met the love of her life, Paul Robert Carter, through her best friend, Phyllis Thatcher, in 1972. Paul and Cathy were a dynamic duo, experiencing many great adventures together. They enjoyed square-dancing, roller-skating, bowling, horseback riding, and racoon hunting. March 22, 1975, Paul and Cathy got married. Three years later they grew their family with their first son, Wesley Carter, and then later, Charles Carter. Cathy then became a nurse at work and then at home taking care of two rambunctious boys. Cathy devoted her life to being a mom and taking care of her sons needs, making sure to get them to every sports practice and never missing a game. This great mom then became and even better grandmother.

Cathy loved traveling to the beach with her family. Her father built a house at Oak Island when she was just a child and she spent all the time she could there. She adored walking the waters and finding shells. Sharing these moments at the beach with her sons and grandchildren were her most fond memories.

She leaves behind her husband, Paul; sons, Wesley (Ashley) and Charlie (Amy); grandchildren, Lauren Paige (Trey) Mason, Brayden Carter, and Mason Carter; best friend and partner in crime, Phyllis (Steve) Thatcher; sister-in-law, Kathy Johnson; and many other loved ones and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Otis Johnson, III.

A celebration of Cathy's life will be held on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at 1pm at Frank Vogler & Sons Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service.
