Betty Redman Hale passed away peacefully in Salisbury, NC, on Tuesday evening, October 7, at the age of 87. A memorial Service will be held at Trinity Oaks 728 Klumac Road, Salisbury NC on Saturday, October 18 at 2:00 pm. A small family internment will be held at a later date at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Winston-Salem, NC.
Betty was born November 22, 1926 to John and Pearl Redman in Mt. Airy, NC. She is the middle child with sisters Maxine, Jo, and Billie, one brother Jim. Throughout the years, she lived in Winston Salem, Alexandria, VA; Greensboro, Cherry Grove Beach, SC and Salisbury, NC.
Upon graduating from Reynolds High School, Betty attended the Presbyterian School of Nursing in Charlotte. She then relocated to Winston Salem and joined Northup and O'Brien Architectural firm.
Betty married James O. Hale (Jim) in 1950 and they had four children while living in Winston-Salem. They were members of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church. She was very proud of her children and they were the love of her life.
Betty loved to entertain, cook, playing golf and bridge; was a gifted painter and crafter. While living in Greensboro, she was a member of Starmount Country Club and enjoyed a golf handicap of 6. Betty was also active in Our Lady of Grace School and Church.
In addition to her parents, Betty is predeceased by her sister, Jo Redman Fletcher, of Winston Salem.
Surviving siblings include Maxine Blythe of Edenton, NC, Billie Craft of Wilmington, NC and Jim Redman of Winston Salem, NC.
Betty is survived by her daughter Shannon Hale Hicks and husband Bruce, her children Jackie Bettini Bowers and Joseph Bettini all residing in Greensboro; Son Stephen R. Hale and his wife, Annette Kivett Hale, their children Justin and Meredith all residing in Cary; Son David Scott Hale of Lake Norman and his children Brandon in Venice, CA and Jared in Baltimore, MD; daughter Diane Hale Byrne and husband Perry in Salisbury, stepdaughter Leresa Byrne Powers and husband John, granddaughter Camilla; and Alicia Byrne Gray and grandson Trevor residing in Jacksonville, FL.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House in Salisbury, NC, St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Winston Salem or Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Salisbury.
