On July 1, 2021, William “Bill” Timothy Linehan, Jr. loving husband and father passed away peacefully at the age of 84. Bill was born on October 24, 1936, to William & Loretta (Miller) Linehan in McKees Rocks, PA. He is predeceased by his 2 younger brothers, Ronald and Daniel Linehan. He graduated from Stowe High School and joined the Navy. He was a photographer on the USS Forrestal when it was put into service. He is a plank owner.
Bill and Jean met at West View Dance land in Pittsburgh in the fall of 1959, became engaged on Ash Wednesday 1960, and were married on May 6, 1961.
He worked for United Airlines for 35 years in in Chicago, Pittsburgh, Denver and Tampa where he formed many lifelong friendships. Most of the guys call him “Red” because of his red hair, even when it was
gray. When he lived in Pittsburgh he also worked at Bean Beverage several evenings a week for many years. He was a volunteer usher at Ruth Eckerd Hall for many years after he retired here in Florida. He played many sports when he was younger. He loved boating and RV’ing after he retired. He enjoyed watching sports on TV and was a lifelong Pirates and Steelers fan. He loved country music especially
Patsy Cline and Johnny Cash. He also loved taking pictures and so we don’t have a lot of pictures of him.
He was always helping any neighbor that need help.
He was active until his stroke in Feb. 2020. His health deteriorated after that. He was in long-term care at Westchester Gardens for 16 months. He passed away peacefully under Hospice care. He will be remembered for his energy, honesty and generosity.
Bill is survived by his wife, Jean, daughter Debra Burns (Bob), daughter Loretta Marotta (Chuck), son Timothy, grandsons Brendan and James Marotta and Robert Burns, granddaughter Jennifer (Burns) Stuart (Jake) 2 great-grandchildren Jack and Isla Stuart., his many cousins mainly in St. Louis and Pittsburgh and especially his cousin, David Crowley who was like a younger brother to him. He is also predeceased by his oldest son William George Linehan.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 9, 2021 at Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. On Saturday, July 10, 2021, those who want to come to the funeral home before the Mass should arrive around 12:30 pm. The Mass at Espiritu Santo Catholic Church in Safety Harbor, FL will be at 1:30 PM. Military honors will follow Mass in the court yard. A Celebration of Life will follow immediately after at the Gull Aire Village Club House in Oldsmar, FL.
