Walter Clay Reed, 92, of Palm Harbor, Florida, formerly of Dayton, Ohio passed away on Saturday, June 13, 2015. Walter was born on January 28, 1923 in Lily, Kentucky to the late James Reed and Catherine Bodkins Reed. He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Wilma; brothers, James and Morris Reed; and son-in-law, James Combs. Walter is survived by son, Walter “Butch” Clay Reed, Jr., and his wife, Judy; two daughters, Paula West and her husband, Buford; and Sandra Combs; six grandchildren, Ben Reed, and his wife, Tracey; Lindsey McIntire, and her husband, John; Jamie Maynor, and her husband, Mark; Holly Webb, and her husband, Don; Samantha Stepaniak, and her husband, John; and Cassy Combs; as well as seven great-grandchildren; Brandon, MacKenzie, Jake, Zachary, Stephen, Sosie and Megan. He is also survived by sister, Betty Thompson. Walter deeply loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved God and believed totally in the life everlasting as promised by his Savior Jesus Christ. He was a member of the Southern Baptist Church. Over the years he served as Chairman of the Deacons, Chairman of the Building Committee and from 1967 to 1974 he served on the Radio and Television Commission. During his years of employment he worked for E.A. Kinsey from the late 1940’s until 1983. He relocated to Florida in 1983 and was employed by Alro Metals as Sales Manager until his retirement in 1994. Walter also loved to golf. In his younger years he and his wife enjoyed traveling with friends to various golfing events. In his later years he enjoyed watching sports and rooting for his beloved Tampa Bay Rays. A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 11am, with visitation one hour prior, on Saturday, June 20, 2015, at Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home 2853 Sunset Point Road, Clearwater, Florida 33759 In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Suncoast Hospice in Palm Harbor, FL.
