She was born on May 3, 1931 in Helena, Arkansas to the late Ann and Franklin Canode.
Following High School, Thelma Attended Millsap’s University in Jackson, Mississippi where she earned her Bachelor's in Education. Thelma was an educator for over 37 years and taught locally at Belcher Elementary School.
In her free time, Thelma enjoyed traveling with her husband. Together they visited over 75 countries and all 50 states. She also enjoyed playing bridge and spending time with her family.
Thelma was a member of Heritage United Methodist Church in Clearwater.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 66 years, Fisher Thomas; daughters, Rhonda (Larry) Starnes, Lori (Kevin) Caudell; siblings, Joyce White, Franklin Canode Jr.; grandchildren, Heather Black, Thomas (Liz) Black, Wesley Starnes, Landon Starnes, Laurie (Mark) Beggs, Amie Starnes, Amanda Starnes, Julie (Rob) Ro; great-grandchildren, Finn Ro and Evie Ro; many extended family members and friends.
In addition to her parents, Thelma was preceded in death by her sister, Mona Taylor.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30am on November 4, 2023 at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park 2853 Sunset Point Road Clearwater, Florida 33759. The family will receive guests 30 minutes prior to the service.
