Sigrid was born on July 18, 1942 in Berlin at the height of World War II, to parents Friedrich Paul and Hildegard Elfriede Margarete Eilers.
She told stories about food shortages, being cared for by her governess, and playing around an unexploded bomb in her backyard garden. Her parents owned a leather works business, and she had two brothers, one of whom died at a young age. Her father was killed in 1945, and her mother Hildegard soon after fell in love with an American GI, Frank Fox, who she subsequently married and joined in moving back to the United States.
After emigrating from Germany, Sigrid lived in four different states: New Jersey, California, Hawaii and Florida. She met her future husband Lynn Holcombe while working at General Electric, and later married him on May 5, 1968 and honeymooned in Jamaica. They lived for many years in Miami Lakes where she raised her family, started a babysitting co-op and made many connections volunteering in the community. She was very involved in parent teacher associations at her kids’ schools and was a “mother” to so many of her children's’ friends.
Since 1989 she has lived in Palm Harbor, FL joining and remaining a long-time member of the Palm Harbor Newcomer’s Club. She belonged to the Cobb’s Landing bridge club and loved volunteering at events like the Clearwater Jazz Holiday and NCAA sports championships. Her hobbies included knitting, playing mahjong, reading, and water aerobics at the YMCA. She loved helping others, spending time with her friends, and traveling to visit her children and grandchildren.
