Born as Sarah Clarissa Woods on April 7th, 1958, Lisa was brought into this world by her late father Hugh Lawrence Woods and beautiful mother Madoline Cathey Saunders. It was only a few years later that Lisa was joined by her younger sister, Cathey Woods. Together as a family of four, they began the journey of life in Durham, North Carolina.
As the years progressed, Lisa flourished in the world of athletics, participating in the likes of dance, gymnastics, and cheerleading. Her academics were just as polished as her athleticism, and she soon found herself as a student at the North Carolina State University in 1977. Her most memorable moments were spent on the sidelines as a cheerleader for the NC State Wolfpack. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in the field of Economics, pursuing her career in the hospitality industry.
Lisa made her way south and soon became a sunshine state resident in the mid-80’s. It wasn’t too long after her move where she found herself questioning her motives, asking God why He brought her to central Florida. Time had finally bridged the gap of uncertainty, and in 1987, her paths had crossed with Ken Spencer in the hustle and bustle of Orlando. They quickly fell in love and haven’t looked back since.
On top of her success in the hospitality industry, she also exuberated qualities of a loving mother. She stepped into the role of becoming a mom when she brought Tyler into this world on December 1st, 1992. Together as a family of three, they soon embarked on the incredible path of familyhood for the next 30 years, settling in their dream waterfront home in sunny St. Petersburg, Florida. The next 3 decades brought nothing but cherished memories for this family of three. From becoming avid boaters, to taking spontaneous family vacations, there was never a good time they didn’t pass down.
Her infectious passion and drive for work certainly did not go unnoticed. The peak of her career soon became a reality when she took on the role as Director of Sales & Marketing at both the historic Don CeSar & Vinoy hotels, respectively. Her tenacious spirit had made such a tremendous impact on every single person she crossed paths within the industry and beyond, soon becoming life-long friends.
After living a relatively healthy and active lifestyle, she was suddenly diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer in late 2021. Despite the odds, she persisted. Showing true strength in the face of adversity, she conquered the next 11 months leading with courage and love.
Though her remarkable journey of life was taken too soon by the grips of cancer, her light and love will continue to shine for many years to come. She was a beacon of happiness that could easily fill the room with her glowing presence. She was humble, kind, genuine, AND funny too – a woman with great integrity – she was someone that made everyone feel special. God gave us Lisa for a short time, and we have truly been blessed. She has now been called to home to look after Kenny, Tyler, and her loved ones.
A Celebration of Life will take place on October 21, 2022 between 5:00 pm and 8:00 pm at The Don CeSar, 3400 Gulf Blvd, St Pete Beach, FL 33706.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Lisa's name to the Jimmy V. Foundation online at www.v.org/ways-to-give/cancer-research-donation-options/
