She was 79 years old, born May 17, 1944, in Waterloo, Iowa. Daughter of Wayne and Pearl Gross and oldest sibling of five brothers and one sister. She graduated from Columbus High School in Waterloo in 1962 and attended LPN school in Marshalltown. She completed her RN studies at Hawkeye CC.
Sally married William (Bill) Strand on February 13, 1965. Their union lasted 59 years as of February 13, 2024. She worked in the ER for several years eventually becoming the ER manager at St. Francis (Covenant). She enjoyed the challenge of working in the field of nursing and always did the best that she could to make her colleagues happy and feel good about their work.
Following her work in the ER department, she worked as a Coding Manager for Lynx Medical (United Healthcare) until her retirement in 2021. She was a mentor to many colleagues and helped influence them in their careers by providing help and sharing knowledge when asked.
Sally was loved by many! A fierce leader who would always go out of her way to make sure her family was taken care of. There are people who are brought into your life for a reason, and she was a blessing to all those who were fortunate enough to meet her.
She was a dear friend, who enjoyed dancing and singing in the car with her husband to all kinds of music, especially her love of Elvis. She enjoyed going to church and the people she met there. She was, without a doubt, a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Survived by her husband William Strand of Palm Harbor, FL, three children, Chris (Sheila) Strand of Johnston, IA, Jo Loveless of Savannah, GA, Heather Coonradt of Waukee, IA; 7 grandchildren, Samantha Renfeldt (Tyler), McKenna Coonradt, Jack Loveless, Kylee Coonradt, Sydney Loveless, Sean Strand and Skylar Cox. Four brothers and a sister. Quentin (Margo) Gross, Dale (Pam) Gross, Dawn (Dave) Davidson, Matt (Susie) Gross, Todd Gross and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her father and mother, Wayne and Pearl, and brother Jeff.
