Sally Phillips went home to Heaven on December 6, 2022. She was born on October 27, 1926 in Clearwater to Willard Martin Moore and Molly Guzman Moore. Her father died when she was young and her mother raised the family of nine children in Clearwater during the Depression. She proudly completed nursing training at Charity Hospital in New Orleans and returned to Clearwater. She married Donald D. Phillips on August 21, 1949, upon his return from military service in Japan. Their marriage would be a blessing for 73 years, until Don passed on October 9,2022. She would serve as a nursing shift supervisor at Morton Plant Hospital and then worked for Dr. Everett Harrison, a local surgeon, as her family grew. She completed a bachelor’s degree in education at the University of South Florida and taught vocational nursing at Countryside High School, reporting many memories of that experience. She is survived by sisters-in-law Norma Moore and Fran Phillips, her two daughters Donna Wilson (Rick) and Jacqueline Bohnker (Bruce), five grandchildren, Summer Burnett (Jeff), Rebecca (Simon) Wilson Moonilal, Suzanne Sturges (Jesse), Robert Bohnker, and Christopher Bohnker (Jillian), six great grandchildren: Skyler Jones (Julian), Autumn Burnett, Tiana Acosta, Jolie Moonilal, Hannah Bohnker, and Charles Bohnker. She has one great, great grandchild, Jace Jones. She also has multiple nieces and nephews and many friends who will treasure her memory.
Sally had a life of service meeting spiritual needs of others. She proudly displayed her certificate of attendance in the cradle roll at Calvary Baptist Church when she was 2 weeks old. She continued to be active in her church, first at Calvary Baptist and subsequently at Starkey Road Baptist Church.
Her passage leaves a hole not easily filled in those who knew her best. We can be thankful that we were blessed with her presence for these many years.
Services will be held at the Sylvan Abbey Mausoleum 2853 Sunset Point Rd, Clearwater, FL 33759 with visitation at 10:30 and the service at 11:00, with internment following.
In lieu of gifts, the family suggests donations to the charity of your choice. Don and Sally were long time supporters of the Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranch, 3180 Enterprise Road E, Safety Harbor, FL 34695-5205 and the Baptist Children’s Home, 1015 Sikes Blvd, Lakeland, FL 33815.
