of Clearwater Florida, passed away on May 2, 2023, at the age of 95.
Born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, Pete enjoyed all the joys a Hawaiian childhood could provide, including sliding down mud hills on palm fronds, body surfing at Makapu’u and Waimanalo Beaches, paddling outriggers along Kailua and Lanikai, island hopping and surfing in Waikiki. Pete loved Hawaii and as an adult had the pleasure of often renting his brother’s beach house in Lanikai where he could share his love with family and friends.
After graduating from Punahou High School, Pete traveled to the mainland for college, attending Stanford University and graduating with an Industrial Engineering degree. He had a successful career with various manufacturing companies in California, Massachusetts, and Germany before settling in Florida as Vice President and General Manager of Operations for Storz Ophthalmics (formerly Coburn Optical). All the companies Pete worked for were better off for his leadership.
His loves included sailing (he became a certified sea captain), golf, travel (especially cruising), music (including singing Barbershop and playing Ukulele), scuba diving, skiing, spending time with family and sitting in “his” chair on the porch in Lanikai looking at the surf, Makapu’u Point and the Mokulua Islands.
Pete is survived by his wife, Linda; children, Lisa (Larry), Wendy (Cathy), Stacy (David) and Steven (Kathyrin “Kat”); grandchildren, Tyler, Kaylin, Emelyn, Elijah, Joe (Heather), and Maria; great grandsons, Cooper and Brytan; brother, Norman (Fay); and sister, Irene.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday August 27th @2-4pm Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home 2853 Sunset Point Rd Clearwater FL. 33759
