Mignon Kho Patterson, age 55, of Tampa, Florida peacefully passed to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at Moffitt Cancer Center. Mignon was surrounded by the love of family and friends as her more than three-year battle with pancreatic cancer ended. Mignon endured countless rounds of brutal chemotherapy and radiation, always maintaining her positive, pleasant, loving attitude despite the incredible toll that the disease and the treatments were taking on her.
Mignon was born on December 15, 1967, in Manilla, Philippines to Phoa Su Heng Kho and Pieng Lam Dy Kho. She started her college education at the University of the Philippines and then immigrated with her family to the U.S. in 1986, settling in Chicago. Mignon continued her education at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and graduated in 1989 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics. She started working as an actuary for Allstate Insurance Company in Northbrook, Illinois following graduation and continued working there until her passing, except for two years during which she and her husband, Don, lived and worked in Mexico City early in their marriage. Following the birth of her daughter, Lila, Mignon worked remotely as she and her family later lived in Colorado, Indiana, and then finally in Tampa, Florida.
Mignon met her husband, Don, early in her career at Allstate where he also worked. They married in 1997 and were blessed by the birth of their daughter, Lila, in 2003 in Park Ridge, Illinois and by the birth of their son, Luke, in 2005 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Mignon was fully devoted to her husband and kids. She loved being a mom, frequently volunteering at her kids’ schools and immersing herself in all aspects of their lives. Mignon and her family enjoyed traveling the world, but their fondest memories are of their frequent trips to Club Med. Mignon’s deepest passion was for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a member of Calvary Church in Clearwater where she and her family have been attending for 15 years. Mignon’s faith sustained her as she courageously fought cancer.
Mignon is survived by her loving husband, Don Patterson; children, Lila Patterson and Luke Patterson; parents, Phoa Su Heng Kho and Pieng Lam Dy Kho; siblings, Arthur Phoa Kho and Samuel Phoa Kho; sister-in-law, Debbie Simpson; brother-in-law, Alan Simpson; niece, Jenny Aliotta; nephew, Jason Simpson; and great-nephews, Percy Aliotta and Jasper Aliotta.
A visitation for Mignon will be held on Sunday, November 12, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 2853 Sunset Point Road, Clearwater, Florida.
