Born in 1949 in Appleton, Wisconsin to Emmet and Mary Ann Vandenberg, he attended St. Norbert’s College in Green Bay and then went on to begin his life long exploration of the world, traveling throughout Europe before returning to Wisconsin to meet and marry his wife of 47 years, Beth (Daum) Vandenberg.
He enjoyed a fulfilling 27 year career with Manitowoc Company, where he rose to become Vice President of Sales, cherished by the people he worked with while mentoring many along the way.
He was a great provider, who always led with LOVE and who took pride in being a loving husband, father to his 4 kids, papa, brother, son and friend. He enjoyed spending time with his entire family, skiing with his buddies, golfing, experiencing the world, keeping a close eye on the stock market, fast cars, and was a dedicated Packer’s fan.
He is preceded by his sister, Kathy; mother, Mary Ann and father, Emmet; father in law, Ken Daum. He is survived by his wife, Beth; children Josh, Lucas (Bianca), Emily Alvarez (Dan) and Sarah Terry (Scott); grandchildren, Grant, Micah, Madeline and Pierce; siblings, Patty Pieper (Doug), Sherry (Liz Read), and Mark; and mother in law, Catherine Daum.
Mike overcame many medical battles and was a true fighter, with little complaint through it all. He volunteered as a medical case study in peer reviewed journals to further the understanding of Cavernous Angiomas and how to better the lives of others facing the same disease. In his honor we ask that you make any donations to Angioma Alliance (angioma.org).
His Celebration of Life will be held on December 4th, at 11 A.M. at the Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park. 2853 Sunset Point Road, Clearwater, 33759. Come casual and ready to celebrate a life well lived.
