Mary Ann (Clarkin) Rooney – 93 of Clearwater, FL (formerly of South Boston, MA) passed away peacefully with her family by her side on September 25, 2015. She was born on May 17 1922, in Prince Edwards Island Canada. She was the second child to Joseph and Mary Clarkin. Her sister was Mary Agnes Conway of Brookline (deceased). Loving wife to SFC Henry E. Rooney 100% disabled US Army veteran (deceased). Beloved mother to Margaret Rooney of Stoughton Ma, John & Kay Rooney of Holbrook, MA, Maureen Rooney of South Boston (deceased), Henry & Jeanie Rooney of Bradenton, FL, William & Ruth Rooney of Sonoma, CA, Michael Rooney of St. Petersburg, FL (deceased), James & Drema Rooney of Safety Harbor, FL, Helen Rooney of Quincy, MA, Kathleen Rooney of St. Petersburg, FL. Ann was the Loving grandmother to Christopher Linehan of South Boston (deceased), Alea Rooney of Venice FL, Edward Rooney of Las Vegas, William Kent, Brockton, Ma, Brendan Kent, St. Petersberg FL, Phil Slabine of Brookline, Josh Slabine San Francisco CA, Colleen Tausevich of Quincy, Timothy Rooney of St. Petersburg, Fl, Victoria Charrette of Ft Drum NY, Thomas Corbett of Quincy, MA. Great Grandmother to Kiersten, Kiera & Kieran Kent of Brockton, and Brock Tausevich of Quincy, MA. Ann traveled throughout the US & overseas as an army wife, after 24 years in the service they retired from the Army and moved to South Boston MA. In 1970 her husband passed away; she was left to raise their children alone. She valued family, hard work and education. She was a strong, loving, intelligent woman. She graduated from Boston State College at the age of 48 with a BS sociology. At the age of 59 she graduated from Boston City LPN program and she worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse until she retired. In 1996 she moved to St. Petersburg Florida. She always valued education and encouraged all her children to attend college. She was the former president of the greater Boston Gold Star Wives, she wrote poetry for the South Boston Tribune and loved classical music. She had a sharp active mind which did not falter. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
