Martha “Jane” Moran, 82, passed away peacefully July 15, 2014 after a lingering illness. She was born in Malden, Missouri to Hansford and Helen Rouse. Her mother was a member of the Daughters of the Revolution. Jane graduated from Malden High School in 1950 and then attended Ward-Belmont College in Nashville.
In 1952 she married a young Air Force pilot – Lt. Kent Humphrey. Their brief marriage had a tragic end – Lt. Humphrey was killed in action during the Korean War. Their son Wallace Kent was born shortly after his death.
Then In 1957, after a whirlwind romance, Jane married Dr. Leo Moran who was stationed at the Air Force base in Malden. They moved to Minnesota where he set up a medical practice; Jane and Leo were blessed with three more children. Their family moved to Florida in 1971.
Jane was a devout Catholic. For many years she was the unofficial hostess for the clergy of her parish – Light of Christ Church of Clearwater. She would honor them with gourmet dinners on their birthday or special occasions.
Jane also excelled in volunteering – whether it was at church, in schools or in her community. When she lived in Minneapolis she served on the board of The Way, a program for minority youth. She also managed a pantry for the indigent. In Florida she volunteered for many years as a teacher at Clearwater Head Start where she taught common sense and manners classes.
Besides spending time with her family, Jane loved to travel, bird watch, entertain, fine dine and listen to great music. She also loved to watch football – especially the Gators and Buccaneers. Whatever Jane did, she did with great enthusiasm, flair and a beautiful smile.
She is survived by her loving husband Leo of 57 years; four children and three grandchildren: Kent of Clearwater; Cindy and husband Todd of Milwaukee, WI; John and wife Kim and children Chelsea and Jordan of Palm Harbor, FL and Karen and husband Paul and son Kyle of Longwood, FL. She is also survived by her sister Mary Jo McGregor and three nephews in Auburn, CA and brother Charles in Cape Girardieu, MO.
Jane was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She will be forever missed but never forgotten. There will be joy in heaven with her entry.
The family would like to thank Dr. Ray Hansen, Sr. and the staff of Emeritus at Dunedin Assisted Living for their dedicated care.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks to please send donations to Alzheimer’s Disease Research.
