Marion Barner went home to be with her Lord on January 16th, 2017, at the age of 93 after 11 days in intensive care following a motor vehicle accident. She was born in Zanesville, Ohio, on December 5th, 1923. She was a retired Registered Nurse, having graduated from Bethesda Hospital School of Nursing in Zanesville. She served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army during World War II, stationed in Louisville, Kentucky, where she met the love of her life, Adolph L. Barner (Al). After their marriage in 1946, they moved to Elyria, Ohio where she worked for many years at Elyria Memorial Hospital and in several physicians’ offices. Following retirement they moved to Florida in 1981 where she was an active member of the Presbyterian Church of Palm Harbor. She enjoyed singing in the choir, playing piano (and occasionally organ), serving as an Elder, and participating in many other church activities. She was an avid supporter of mission outreach, and enjoyed sewing with Create and Share. She was a volunteer at Mease Countryside Hospital for many years, and regularly played bridge with a group of friends. She loved to go shopping, whether with family and friends, or by herself. Marion set a brilliant example of living life to the fullest in her many activities, interests, faith, and service to others. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Adolph L Barner; her father Harvey Clarke Davis; her mother Irene M. Davis; and a sister Norene (Edward) Spencer. She is survived by her 4 children: Anne (Robert) Rickel, Philip (Janine Maves) Barner, Bruce Barner, and Ellen Takacs; 5 grandchildren – Kevin Rickel, Jeffrey Rickel, Christy (Darren) Matthews, Kirsten Barner, and Marika Barner; 1 great-grandchild – Hayden Matthews; niece and nephew Christine Spencer and Mark Spencer; and many beloved Barner family members. She is a beautiful soul, putting others’ needs above her own, a patient listener, and a prayer warrior. She left a wonderful legacy of love and caring to all who knew and loved her. She will be greatly missed, and will be cherished in our hearts forever. A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Presbyterian Church of Palm Harbor on Saturday, February 11th at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a Marion Barner memorial fund at the Presbyterian Church of Palm Harbor, designated for Missions and/or Music; or to For Haiti with Love, in memory of Marion Barner.
