Marie Florence Vellucci, age 95, of Clearwater, Florida passed away on Monday, November 27, 2023. She was born in Waterbury Connecticut on February 25, 1928, to Peter and Philomena Drozd. She was a founding parishioner of Light of Christ Catholic Church in Clearwater Florida. She and her husband Albert were members of the Fraternal Order Police for many years.
Marie's life centered around her family and friends. She was a warm, loving women who would provide care and comfort for anyone in need. Her children's friends would call her "Mom". She was an outstanding cook--her tomato sauce and potato salad recipes are treasured family secrets. She loved taking care of her yard. She had a "green thumb"and all plants loved to grow for her. In the early part of her life Marie spent her spare time doing art. She created beautiful oil paintings and won prizes at art shows. She also occasionally gave art lessons. After her children were grown, she worked in the medical field as a receptionist for many years.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Albert Vellucci as well as her parents and her sisters, Lucille Slokus and Elizabeth Santopietro. Her great grandson, Levi James Thompson will be waiting for her in Heaven as well as her cherished daughter Patricia "Patti" Olsen, who passed just seven months before her own death.
She is survived by her brother, Robert Drozd, as well as her daughter, Gayle Wetzel and her husband Karl, her son Richard Vellucci and his wife Nancy, her son in law, Carl Olsen, her daughter Laura Vellucci and her fiance' Dion Bianco. She left four Grandchildren--Alicia Wald, Joshua Vellucci, Kristin Winkleman and Jaime Shultz; as well as eleven great -grandchildren--Jada Vellucci Thompson, Jackson Vellucci, Lucas Wald, Jacob Vellucci, Kaeden Olsen, Eric Edgar, Harper Winkleman, Carson Vellucci, Josie Schultz, Judd Schultz and Caia Vellucci.
A Funeral Service for Marie will be held Friday December 8, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Light of Christ Catholic Church, 2176 Marilyn St, Clearwater, FL 33765. Following the Service will be a graveside service, from 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park, 2860 SUNSET POINT RD, CLEARWATER, FL 33759. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Light of Christ Catholic Church, the World War II Memorial or St Jude Children Research Hospital.
