Margaret, or Peggy as she was called most of her life, was born in the Elmhurst section of Queens, New York, the second of four children born to Vincent A. and Mary Jane Shea.
During World War II, Peggy and her older sister Helen both served as USO hostesses, and not surprisingly, both married soldiers after the war. Peggy married James J. Stanton of New York City in 1947, and while he completed his education, she worked as a correspondent at Blue Cross Blue Shield of New York, where she honed her skills as a bookkeeper and developed a strong understanding of pension and health insurance systems.
Peggy and James welcomed their first child, Matthew, in 1951, and their second, Lawrence, in 1956.
In 1962, Peggy accepted a position as the chief bookkeeper for the Actor’s Equity pension and welfare program, a job she loved and a place where she thrived, eventually becoming the assistant Fund Administrator for Actor’s Equity. Peggy retired in 1990, and she and James moved around a bit looking for the perfect retirement spot. After short stays in Pennsylvania and Maryland, they settled in Florida, and lived for several years in Clearwater.
James passed away in 1997, and a short time later, Peggy relocated to St. Mark Village in Palm Harbor, a place that was a happy home for her ever since.
Peggy is survived by her younger sister Barbara Viera of Palm Harbor FL, and by her younger son Lawrence of New York, Pennsylvania and Washington DC. She is also survived by four grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and five nephews and their families.
