Luther O. Buis

At 2:34am Monday, February 17, 2014 heaven received an angel. Luther Oscar Buis left this world in the arms of his bride of almost 60 years. In his last days, as in life, he was surrounded by love, laughter and tears. He has gone by many titles in his life, son, brother, US Marine, husband, father, friend, boss, uncle, ref, golf buddy, Papa, great-papa, pops.

He leaves behind his wife Martha Ann Buis. Five children, Rick Buis, Butch Buis, Tina Shaw, John Buis and Amy Buis. Fourteen grandchildren Logan Von Hoene, Garrett Buis, Michael Buis, Shawn Buis, Steven Buis, Nick Stavros, Tanner Buis, Justin Buis, Dalton Shaw, Jewel Jones, Rossiter Hawkins, James Buis, Trey Buis and Jocelyn Charles. Eight great grandchildren Tanner Von Hoene, Cayden, Griffin Von Hoene, Greta Von Hoene, Mason Buis, Cayden McGoron, Bailey Buis, Ellie Buis and Evelyn Buis. Three sisters Genetta Wiggin, Louzette Mitchem and Loujette Denney.

He has taught us so many things, how to live, how to love, to be hard workers, to be proud but humble, to be parents and friends, to never give up but know our limits, how to win and how to lose, when to have fun and when to grieve (sometimes within the moment). There are so many things that we will miss. No longer will we be able to say "hey dad, what do you think?". Now we need to think what would daddy say? He will never be far from our thoughts and always in our hearts. We can mourn his loss but celebrate how blessed we were to have him in our lives. He has touched so many in different ways. He leaves behind a legacy that very few have been able to accomplish. He was the most amazing man, to say he was loved is an understatement. He is now in heaven making his loved ones that have gone before him laugh. We will see him again, until then, we will live our lives the way he would expect us to. We will work hard, laugh out loud, love fiercely and be a family.

A visitation will be held from 6-8pm on Wednesday evening, February 19, 2014 at the Moss Feaster Funeral Home, 693 S. Belcher Road, Clearwater, Florida.

Funeral services will be held at 11am, Thursday morning, February 20th at Calvary Baptist Church, 1190 E. Lake Road S., Tarpon Springs, Florida with Reverend Victor Boll officiating. Burial will follow at Midway Cemetery in Palm Harbor, Florida.

The family request contributions be made in memory of Luther O. Buis to Suncoast Hospice Foundation or to the American Cancer Society.
