Joyce E. (Forsberg) Shriner was born on April 15, 1927, in Redwood City, California, to Ernest and Julia Forsberg. Shortly after her birth, the family moved to the New Castle area of Pennsylvania, where Joyce spent her formative years and made many fond memories. She often told stories of swimming in Hell's Hollow and sledding down hilly streets in the winter, praying that no cars were coming.
Joyce retired as an Executive Assistant for the General Assembly Church of God in Michigan. She had previously held similar roles at Sperry and General Electric. However, she considered being happily married to Neil Shriner for nearly 60 years and raising her children Greg, Lori, and Sheri as her most rewarding and special job. Joyce was also a proud grandmother to Larson (Lynn) Sholander, Jamison (Courtney) Sholander, Linnea (Dale) Kellar, Annika Sholander (fiancé-Jaden Galloway), Mia Schaeffer, and Keilia Schaeffer, and a great-grandmother to Cedar Kellar, Levi Sholander, Zion Kellar, Declan Sholander, Micah Sholander, and Avonlea Kellar.
Joyce was well known for her love of purple and love of beauty. She incorporated both of these passions into her home and wardrobe, creating a beautiful "purply world" around her. She was also proud of her Scandinavian heritage and appreciated diverse types of music. Among her favorites were Gospel hymns and New Orleans jazz, as well as "jazzed up" church hymns.
At a young age, Joyce accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, living out His love and His Word in countless ways throughout her lifetime. She had an unwavering devotion to her family and was uniquely gifted in building others up with words of encouragement. She was also a gracious host and friend to many, serving as a source of joy, laughter, and love for everyone she met. Above all, Joyce will be remembered for her unconditional love. Even when she disagreed with her loved ones, or her children behaved mischievously, her deep, unconditional love never wavered.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Neil Shriner, and her brothers, Lorren and Vern (Lois) Forsberg. She is survived by her sister, Julia (Jim) Forsberg Crooks; her sister-in-law, Esther Forsberg; her children, Greg (Xin Qiang) Schaeffer, Lori Shriner, Sheri (Eric) Sholander; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren listed above; and several cherished nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Joyce will be held Friday, April 21, 2023 from 11:00 am to 12:45 pm at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 2853 Sunset Point Rd, Clearwater, FL 33759. A funeral service will occur Friday, April 21, 2023 at 12:45 pm with a graveside service to follow.
