On April 4, 2019, we lost a legend. Not a movie star, not a rock star, a real legend. Joe Incorvia, aka husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, mentor, friend, WW ll veteran, and so much more…
He was 98-years young. He married Rose Incorvia (95) and they remained madly in love for 72 years. He raised 9 children and stayed active in all our lives … and our kids' ... and their kids'. All 103 of them. He knew every one of their names and never missed sending out a birthday card with a gift. That’s an average of 8 birthdays a month, 2 times a week. Dad liked math. That was for him.
He was an educated man, taking advantage of every learning opportunity. He received his officers training for the military at Yale University. He attended Fenn College (Now Cleveland State University). He lived through an era that few of us can truly imagine. He lived through the depression, eating only what he was able to grow. He remembers the days before indoor plumbing and gas prices of .21 cents a gallon. Yet, he stayed current with today’s technology and communicated by email; he had the latest cell phone and texted like a teenager using emojis and gifs. He briefly met Alexa, but kicked her out.
At the age of 96, he asked his kids if he was too old to zip line. We scheduled it, and the local news came out to watch him do 7 zips and then finish with the obstacle course. For his 97th birthday, he wanted to parachute. About 2 weeks before the scheduled date he became sick and never quite recovered enough to skydive. He changed the lives of so many with his words and actions. He helped put soooo many through college and helped soooo many through hard times. If this man said he would do something, by God, he would do it. He taught us many of life’s simple lessons like:
• ”Do just a little bit more than is expected with everything you do.”
• “Be 5 minutes early instead of 5 minutes late. It will change your life.”
• “If you say you will do something, do it. Your word is everything.”
• “Live a life that doesn’t require lying.”
• “Work hard and be nice to people.”
• “Be there for your family.”
Dad, you will be missed. Your words of wisdom will be heard all day, every day, by all those you have loved, trained, helped, and influenced. We will carry on your legacy. You said you hoped to be half the man your father was. He must have been one hell of a Superhero.
