“Chute”, was a dear friend from our long ago days we shared living in San Juan P R,  back in the 60’s. So sorry to hear of his passing, and that we lost track of one another.

Dear Denise and Family!

I am greatly saddened to learn of dear Chuy’s passing.  I hope it was peaceful.  He was such a wonderful man in so many ways to family and friends.  He was a joy to so many!  I remember his non-stop cheerfulness at every family gathering of the White family!   

Every time I saw him he recounted how welcoming my parents were to him when you and he were engaged and married in 1960.  My folks, Denis and Helen White, were deeply impressed with him personally.  He was a prize “catch” for niece Denise!  Chuy told them and me about his family’s flight from Mexico during the Cristero revolt. The persecution of Catholics then and there resonated with the history of our White and Brennan forebears – Catholics fleeing from Ireland during the Great Famine.  Likewise my Mother’s parents were Catholic immigrants from two different areas of German-speaking Europe noted for high religious tension and conflict.  The immigration experience from Mexico resonated with my parents’ family history!  

Eternal Rest Grant unto him, Oh Lord!  I pray the Celebration of Life brings you and yours peace and consolation!  Cousin Joe White and family  

There came a knocking at our door, it 3am it was Chuy, we all got up and mom fired up the beans and tortillas, we laughed , talked  and Chuy wouldn’t let us be sad.

Then Chuy introduced us to Denise, and they treated us to some ground level trampolines. Denise was a champ, she flipped, turned and went so high, and ripped her pants, Chuy said “well that’s what you get for showing off Denise”, we all chuckled as Chuy surrendered his jacket and Denise tied around her waist, they hugged each other and everything was copacetic. 

As we were burying Roddy, we met in Mary’s hotel room before Chuy would treat us to dinner. Then Rose said to  dad”Leo we really enjoyed those Omaha Steaks” and Chuy voice chimed across the room , as he asked Ben did you get any Omaha Steaks, we all roared with laughter. And Chuy wouldn’t let us be sad. The same thing happen when we buried Carmen and Joe Garcia, hey Ben did you bring your golf clubs.

Denise I always admired the way You and Chuy treated each other.

To Chuy's family. I had the privilege of playing tennis with Chuy when he was in Snowmass Village and it was always fun.  
One funny story about one of our matches - Chuy noticed something about my game that morning, he kept hitting the ball to my backhand and I kept missing it.  Normally by backhand shot is good, but that day I think I missed every one of them.
When I got home I told my wife about how terrible that match was and for some reason I covered my left eye with my hand and discovered I was blind in my right eye- total darkness!
Don't worry it was an advanced cataract, easily corrected with surgery.
