Airman's Record for SMSgt (ret) USAF James E. Miller Senior Master Sergeant James E. Miller was born on June 14th, 1937, the oldest of four children of John Paul and Nelle (Johnston) Miller, in Dresden, Ohio. With his sisters Patricia, Kathy, and Paula, and younger brother David, he lived and grew up in East McKeesport, Pennsylvania. He attended and graduated from East Allegany High School, where he excelled in sports; twice being selected on the East McKeesport's All City Football team. Upon graduation in 1955, James Miller enlisted in the United States Air Force in the Tactical Air Command, as a Flightline Mechanic. In 1957, James met and married Ruby Carolyn Jacobs of Columbia, South Carolina. Together they shared three children; sons Thomas Edward, Robert Alan and daughter Lisa Carol. Throughout his military service, travels, and time together, they shared 36 years of marriage. James Miller served in the Air Force for over 25 years, culminating his career as a Senior Master Sergeant and the Ground Maintenance Supervisor for the 57th Air Ground Support Wing; responsible for the combat readiness of over 250 Airman and 40 F-4 Phantom jet aircraft. His tours of service in the Air Force had him serving at: Lackland Air Force Base (San Antonio Texas) Homestead Air Force Base (Homestead, Florida) Wheelus Air Force Base (Tripoli, Libya) Laredo Air Force Base (Laredo, Texas) Andrews Air Force Base (Camp Springs, Maryland) Udorn Air Force Base (Udorn, Thailand) Sheppard Air Force Base (Wichita Falls, Texas) Kunsan Air Force Base (Kunsan, Korea) Grissom Air Force Base (Bunker Hill, Indiana) Nellis Air Force Base (Las Vegas, Nevada) His military awards included: Meritorious Service Medal Air Force Commendation Medal (with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster) Good Conduct Medal (with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters) National Defense Service Medal Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal Vietnam Service Medal Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon (with 5 Oak leaf Clusters) Air Force Presidential Unit Citation Air Force Outstanding Unit Award Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon Following his retirement from the Air Force in 1980, James stayed active working full time at various business throughout the United States and completing three Associate of Arts Degrees in Accounting, Business and Finance. In 1993, while working at Superior Surgical Fashion Seal Uniforms, in Seminole, Florida, James met and fell in love with Janet Belcher of Clearwater, Florida. They married on the 23rd of March, 1996 and shared 20 years of joy filled marriage with their blended family of Thomas Miller, Robert Miller, Lisa Wilson, Craig Belcher, Matthew Belcher, and James Belcher. Senior Master Sergeant James E. Miller is preceded by his father John Paul, his mother Nelle Lorraine, his sister Paula and his brother David. He is survived by his spouse, Janet Miller; his 6 children, 15 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and 2 sisters.
