He was born on June 22, 1938 in Wytheville, Virginia to the late Mark and Kate (Anderson) Babcock.
When Jim was 2 years old, his family moved from Virginia to Daytona Beach, which is where he grew up and called his hometown. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout while in high school; he enlisted in the U.S. Navy after graduation, serving 4 years on active duty. He attended the University of Florida, and later graduated from the University of South Florida, where he was a member of the International Fraternity of Delta Sigma Pi.
Jim was a Property Tax Appraiser and traveled to various parts of the country for his work. He held both a Real Estate Appraiser’s license and a Real Estate Broker’s license.
An avid fan of most sports, Jim loved the Gators, the Bulls, the Bucs and NASCAR. Living in Daytona, he even got to drive on the Daytona Speedway. Golfing and fishing were among his hobbies and he traveled to Alaska several times for deep sea fishing. Thoughtful, kind, soft-spoken, Jim was truly an all-around good guy. We welcomed him into our ready-made family and he accepted us into his calm, easy-going life.
He was preceded in death by his brother, William N. Babcock.
Jim is survived by his wife of 29 years, Anita Babcock; his sister-in-law, Julie Babcock (William); nephew, Mark (Laura); grandnieces, Sophie and Eva; and grandnephew, Max Babcock. He is also survived by stepsons, Scott (Julie), Steven (Michelle), and Adam (Joely); and beloved grandchildren, Lauren (Brian), Alex (Nadja), Marcus, Tony, and Layla DelVecchio.
A Committal Service with Honors will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at Bay Pines National Cemetery (as posted).
