Edith M. Burke, formerly of Safety Harbor, Florida, passed away on November 4th at Inlet Oaks Assisted Living Retirement Home in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. She was 95. Born in New York City and raised in upstate New York, she was the daughter of George Bachschmidt and Margaret Zalga Bachschmidt and the sister of Claire Stark and George Bachschmidt.
Retired from the New York State Psychiatric Center in Poughkeepsie, Edith worked as an Administrative Assistant for many years. After retiring to Florida, she was an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Clearwater and later of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Stuart.
She is survived by three children, Kathleen Remhoff, Karen Maxwell, and John Burke; five grandchildren (plus one deceased); and ten great grandchildren. She also has a niece and a nephew.
Edith loved gardening and was a member of the Garden Club in Stuart, winning many first-place ribbons for her plants. She also enjoyed quilting with her church group and donated quilts to those in need.
A graveside service will be held on December 4th at 1 pm at the Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park & Funeral Home in Clearwater, Florida. Donations in her memory may be sent to Disabled American Veterans, her longtime preferred charity.
