Dorothy Jean Salvin Bickel, 85, passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at 12:33am.
She had been a recent patient at Hospice Woodside in Pinellas Park, FL.
Dorothy had been battling congestive heart failure along with other ailments
for over a year. No memorial service is planned, as respective of her wishes.
She will be cremated by the National Cremation Society, with her remains to
be interned along side her husband's grave in Greenwood Cemetery of Amherst, WI.
She was born March 23, 1926 in Milwaukee, WI, daughter of John & Hazel Salvin.
Dorothy served in the Air Force from 1951 to 1954 as a cryptographer.
In 1952 she married Bob Bickel of Amherst, WI, and after some travelling, they
eventually settled down in Arlington Heights, IL, where son Bruce was born.
Bob, her husband of 21 years, died in 1973 at age 52. Dorothy and her son moved
to Wisconsin for a few years, but ended up moving south to Pinellas Park, FL.
Dorothy worked many different jobs until finally settling at Sperry / Hercules Defense
plant, where she retired in 1992 as senior accounting assistant.
As far as religious background, she grew up an Episcopal, but switched to Lutheran
after getting married.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Art and Ted, and
one sister, Virginia.
Survivors include her son, Bruce & wife Barb, of Largo, FL; a sister, Ruth, of Tucson,
AZ; two brothers - John & wife Ethel, of Hobart, WA and Byron & wife Gay, of St. Pete
Beach, FL.
Nieces include Peggy, Jeanne, Tanya, Becky and Stephanie.
Nephews include John,jr., Chris, Matt, Rob, John and Bill.
Also, she is survived by 4 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and one great, great
grandchild.
Dorothy Jean Salvin Bickel was an artist at heart, and cherished her freedom.
