after stoically battling cancer. He was surrounded in his last days by caring friends who gave
him help, comfort, and peace of mind, by compassionate Empath Suncoast Hospice staff, his
wife, Lorraine, who was his main caregiver and constant companion, and his beloved rescue
cat, Jade, who brought him great joy.
Born in Massachusetts, he later moved with his parents and sister, Pamela (Gagnon) to
Connecticut where he attended Canton schools. His travels later took him to Costa Mesa,
California, and eventually to Florida, where he settled in Clearwater.
Don was a highly skilled CNC machinist working in the aerospace industry for companies such
as Pratt & Whitney Aircraft (CT), Cla-Val (CA), and Lockheed Martin (FL) among others. He
retired from Lockheed Martin, and pursued his life-long love of acquiring and restoring classic
cars.
Kind and generous to a fault, Don had a particular compassion for those in need, and a tender
spot for animals. He never met a turtle he wouldn’t take time to rescue from the road, or a stray
cat or dog he couldn’t feed and find either their current or new home.
Predeceased by his parents and sister, he is survived by his wife of 29 years, Lorraine Scheidel
Ulen, his stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Michael and Sarah Scheidel of Enfield, CT, and a
nephew, Brian Gagnon.
At Don’s request, there will be no funeral services. His final rest is entrusted to Sylvan Abbey
Funeral Home at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park. Please consider a donation to one of his
favorite organizations: your local Humane Society, St. Judes Children’s Hospital, the American
Red Cross, or your local Hospice.
