Born September 7, 1934 Donald passed away at the age of 85 during a procedure in the hospital on December 18, 2019. He was very much at peace and going in had his Wife, daughter Pamela, and Son Jeffrey by his side.
Donald lived 85 years happy and with lots of twists, turns, and moves. Which is pretty much as he wanted to live them. Stating out as a boy in upstate NY in the mountains spending time fishing, playing baseball and the trumpet.
After graduating from high school, Donald went off to join the Army 1955 proudly serving his country actively for 2 years with an additional 5 years in the reserves. He played in the military band honorably.
He went back home to NY in 1957 where he met his Wife of 61 years as they were married in 1958.
Don then started his professional journey through life working in sales, service, design, and engineering of plumbing and oil, natural, and propane gas systems. Don one several awards for his work throughout his career. He also showed his entrepreneurial side as he finished his career the way he started it running his own company. He had a passion for his work and was a perfectionist and prided himself on doing the job right and also not charging a person unnecessarily. He was always trying to save customers money when he could have charged so much more.
When not working, Donald enjoyed watching sports, and in his younger days coaching and attending his son’s games and band events. At home he most enjoyed watching some TV, westerns and his favorite evangelist, if not a good baseball game and just spending time with his Wife. Don also enjoyed going out for dinner as he had a passion for food as well.
Don was a Christian man and was passionate about his faith. He spent a lot of time in church and serving his God. These were some of his happiest moments in life. His belief in Jesus, his lord and savior got him through many trials in life and was passed down to his family and many friends. He touched so many lives. More than we could even know as he was always sharing and praying for and with others.
Dad had a fun side to him. He loved to use the CB Radio and it was a hobby for a long time. He used the handle “Fat Daddy” and was pretty well known back in those days. He had another nickname which was quite fitting, “Donzilla” and even had a miniature Godzilla toy as his company truck hood ornament for many years. He figured he was in the industry of making water hot so why not have a fire breathing Godzilla.
Donald was proceeded by his father Daniel, Step father Ray, Mother Hilda, Sister Betty, and Son Donald R. and he is survived by his Wife Margaret, Daughters Pamela and Susan, Son Jeffrey, Son in Law Steven, Daughter in Law Carrie, Grandchildren Jennifer, Daniel, Joshua, Ethan, Timothy, Jerimiah, and Savannah and many others in the extended family.
He will be sorely missed but he passed on so many things to his family and friends that he will not be forgotten and will be celebrated for lifetimes to come in the things he taught so many. Faith, work ethic, family first, just to name a few things that will live on.
Services will be held Monday December 23rd at 1 PM grave side at the Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park, 2860 Sunset Point Rd, Clearwater, FL 33759
